Brain Cancer and Cannabis: The Hopes and Challenges
Continued Education Session | CNNC 2021
SESSION TOPIC:
Brain Cancers and the Challenges Including Cannabis
Will the use of cannabis help with brain cancer and how?
Primary brain and nervous system cancer is the 10th leading cause of death with an estimated 18,000 adults who will die this year and the 5-year survival rate is only about 36%, but this does not tell the whole story. Types of cancer, treatment choices, cannabis, and other factors must be considered and as nurses we need to know the details and how these impacts both the patient and their family/loved ones. This session will address the facts and the anecdotal reports of patients using cannabis with brain cancers versus those that do not.
The attendee will learn greater details of this deadly cancer group with a focus on the increasing numbers of cases, what to look for, and how cannabis may be a beneficial adjunct or alternative therapy.
