Dawn Martinez began working in the medical field in a variety of modalities specializing in: Rehabilitation, Long Term Care, and Assisted Living as a CNA while working with seniors in her home state of Wisconsin in 1992. She furthered her education and earned her LPN License with an Associate’s Degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Waukesha County Technical College in 1993. She realized the medical system that was transforming was not where she belonged and decided to embarqued into veterinary medicine by earning her Associates of Science degree as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician where she worked from 2006-2008 at Northeast Animal Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.
Her health began to fail with her previous history of MS, seizures, and chronic pain that was caused from a motor vehicle accident in 2000 where she was prescribed over 23 pharmaceutical prescriptions that were failing her and she needed further options. Her quest for knowledge within a holistic approach allowed her to discover cannabis as a natural treatment option in 2008 where she became a NV-MMP (Nevada Medical Marijuana Patient). At this time there were little options for knowledge yet she kept searching.
In 2014, she met #AskNurseJuhlzie, the creator of Cannabis Nurses Magazine, and began her activism for patient rights with safe access and safe products in Nevada while gaining strides with her health. She attended her first cannabis course, Holistic Nursing and the Endocannabinoid Connection (3.0 Contact Hours) in 2016 certified through Colorado Cannabis Nurses Association in conjunction with Cannabis Nurses Network Workshops. She then attended Cannabis Education for Nurses and Endocannabinoid Connections Workshop and Sports Panel held at UNLV through Cannabis Nurses Network Conference 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. Additionally, she has taken online core curriculum through Green Flower Media and holds NV Agent Card Licensing in dispensary, cultivation and production.
Her diverse hands-on knowledge and experience with cannabis with her own illnesses has allowed her to consult with patients, providing information and education specific to their needs, including their pets. She has guided patients through their transition into cannabis therapeutics which she believes is a lifestyle change that is not for everyone and needs to be taken seriously. She an inspiring visionary pioneering into the newly developing field of Cannabis Nursing and has assisted Cannabis Nurses Magazine in a variety of events, education, and recognition since 2016. She is a Founding member of Cannabis Nurses Network since May 2018.
